Advancing Airport Security Through Modern Identity & Credentialing Systems

E.K. Associates partnered with Convergint Technologies, LLC to support the modernization and implementation of Los Angeles World Airports’ Identity Management and Credentialing System (IMCS)—a mission-critical platform responsible for secure access control, badge provisioning, compliance workflows, and identity lifecycle management for LAX and Van Nuys Airport.
Serving as project management and documentation leaders, E.K. Associates strengthened delivery discipline, enhanced governance, and elevated documentation quality, ensuring IMCS was scalable, secure, and ready for enterprise-wide adoption. Through structured assessment, PMO guidance, and disciplined content development, E.K. Associates helped LAWA enhance airport security, streamline credentialing operations, and establish repeatable processes to support future modernization initiatives.

We performed a formal evaluation of LAWA’s and Convergint’s project and portfolio management methodologies across seven critical success factors, including PM maturity, portfolio governance, change readiness, documentation processes, strategy alignment, role clarity, communication pathways, and operational effectiveness. The assessment informed a targeted roadmap for strengthening PM discipline across IMCS and related airport security programs.
We strengthened IMCS delivery execution by establishing and refining project management processes, standardizing templates and workflows, implementing governance structures for reporting and escalation, and introducing documentation controls to improve auditability and transparency.
We led end-to-end technical documentation development, collaborating with engineers, subject matter experts, and technical leads to produce a comprehensive documentation suite—including end-user guides, system administration manuals, configuration and installation guides, upgrade documentation, and multi-format (HTML/PDF) deliverables—to support long-term system sustainment.
We supported quality assurance and feature validation efforts by testing IMCS functionality, validating requirements, documenting defects and enhancement opportunities, and ensuring alignment between engineering output, documentation, and user expectations.
We established documentation standards and governance practices, reviewed vendor-authored content, enforced consistency across manuals, improved clarity and usability, and maintained version control to support continuous improvement and long-term maintainability.
