Enterprise Ransomware Assessment & Decision Framework

E.K. Associates, in collaboration with Ross & Baruzzini and Fortalice Solutions, was engaged by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to modernize the organization’s Incident Response (IR) posture and ensure readiness against advanced cyber threats—specifically ransomware. The engagement strengthened LAWA’s enterprise preparedness through refined response strategies, executive engagement, and decision-ready frameworks.
E.K. Associates led the refinement of LAWA’s Incident Response strategy, facilitated executive-level ransomware tabletop exercises, and delivered a comprehensive ransomware assessment and decision tree to support fast, informed, and coordinated response actions. This work elevated LAWA’s ability to assess risk, manage disruption, and communicate effectively during high-impact cybersecurity incidents.

We reviewed, assessed, and updated LAWA’s Information Security and Operational Incident Response plans to address modern ransomware attack patterns, regulatory expectations, and enterprise coordination requirements.
We planned and executed a live, onsite ransomware response simulation with senior LAWA leadership, testing communications, decision-making, operational coordination, and consequence-management scenarios beyond technical response activities.
We delivered a structured, practical decision tree enabling LAWA to classify ransomware incidents, assess impact severity, evaluate risk, and select appropriate response paths in real time.
We unified security, IT, operations, and leadership teams, establishing consistent interpretation of ransomware activity, clear escalation paths, and defined communication responsibilities.
